You Really Love Black People, Don’t You?
The top five nutty, ignorant, micro-aggressive things white people say to me
Online dating is interesting. On the one hand, you meet people you never would’ve met. On the other, you meet people you never would’ve met.
I tried it several times in the past, and while I won’t be joining the ranks of “I should write a book about this shit,” when it comes to racial and ethnic issues, I’ve just about heard it all.
Here are my top five.

So how Jewish are you?
The first time I heard this question was in 2011. Normally I’m quick on my feet, but I just stared back, stunned. “How Jewish am I?”
Are you effing kidding me was my first thought. But by the third time someone asked me this question, I had ample time to prepare.
“I’m as Jewish as that person over there is Black,” pointing to a Black man across the coffee shop.
To clear the air, “Jewish” is not just a choice of religious beliefs a person rejects or accepts. It’s also peoplehood, a tribe with a national origin story beginning in Israel some 3,000 years ago, eventually disbursing all over the world after expulsion by multiple colonists.
