Time to rethink our unfair treatment of female athletes
Americans were united on maybe one issue last year:
Our desire to have Britney Spears freed from the shackles of her dad.
For some reason, though, we don’t see too many Free Britney signs and proclamations anymore. No more protests. No more hand-made signs. No Facebook posts. No more daily news updates.
I know. I know. Britney Spears actually was “freed” to spend her own money so why would we still protest?
Here’s why.
A different Brittney, Brittney Griner, is one of the biggest WNBA stars and has been detained by Russian authorities since February 17, 2022 for allegedly possessing, according to the Russians, significant amounts of narcotics. In reality, she had cannabis oil while going through airport security.
And now, she’s still being held by the Russians as a political pawn in their illegal war against Ukraine.
Why the hell was Brittney Griner in Russia, you ask?
Because the WNBA pays her a whopping $227,900 per year, which is the league maximum. She’s tied with a few others as the highest paid player in the WNBA.
