People who know me or my writing know I’m passionate about stomping out hate and the words, behavior, negative images and systems that perpetuate it.

Whether it’s activism against the deep, ingrained conscious and unconscious racism facing Black Americans. The violence against Asians. Attacks on the LGBTQ community. Or the ever-increasing anti-Semitism that continues to infect society.

I don’t tolerate any of it.

I speak to organizations about it. I write about it. I talk to my children and friends about it. And I probably won’t stop anytime soon.

But there’s one hate I embrace.

The University of Michigan.

I despise the U of M Wolverines more than I can express.

The hate I have for them is sometimes so hard to contain.

It permeates my mind, heart and body year-round but especially in November.

I had to use them in this article, but I try not to even use the letter “M” the week of the Ohio State-Michigan game.

I would never let one of my children attend that godforsaken place.

We even sing a song to the tune of the Michigan fight song about the Wolverines that is so…
