Jamie Foxx’s Christmas Wakeup Call
A reminder for grace and purpose
Sunday nights are usually reserved for mindless movie watching.
My work weeks are very intellectually challenging, so it’s a good calm before the storm to lay back on the couch and watch a movie on Netflix, AppleTV or Hulu.
As I was scrolling the film options recently, I came across the new Jamie Foxx special.
I assumed it was just a comedy routine and kept going. I was in the mood for a thriller or some other longer movie.
For some reason, nothing new caught my attention, and the icon to play Foxx’s special kept appearing on my screen.
I’ve always loved Jamie Foxx’s material so I relented and pressed play.
What I was about to watch hit me to the core.
Thinking and feeling people of all faiths struggle with the concept of why bad things happen to good people. And why good things happen to evil people.
When each of us endures seemingly insurmountable struggles. When we lose a job. Or a parent turns ill. Or a child is in the hospital. A divorce.
It all seems too much. And we call out to God, “why me?” Or in some cases, we question whether there’s anyone at the wheel in this chaotic world.
