It’s Hammer Time For Black Thor

Marvel Comics in 2022 still is promoting negative stereotypes

Marvel Comics released a new comic imagining what would have happened if character Miles Morales became Thor instead of Spider-Man.

Morales is a fictional superhero appearing in Marvel comic books as one of the characters known as Spider-Man. The character was created in 2011. Recently, though, Marvel decided to create a new storyline around what would have happened if Morales became Thor.

In that story, Morales lives in the God realm of Asgard as the famed hero Thor.

Far from what we might envision of a heavenly paradise, though, this so-called Godly place features buildings painted with graffiti, and shoes hanging from telephone lines. In this version of Thor, when Thor carries a hammer, he yells out “It’s Hammer Time,” very reminiscent of MC Hammer’s hit song.

The comic even refers to Asgard as “the hood.”

If you haven’t figure this out yet, the Miles Morales character is Black and depicting him in a stereotypical depressed Black neighborhood called the hood yelling out rap slogans is, well, a bit nauseatingly racist.

For decades our main superheroes were virtually all white men, save maybe Wonder Woman.
