Over the past decade-plus, there’s been a welcome awakening when it comes to combatting racism and many other forms of xenophobia.

White and Black folks alike have been demanding significant changes in how we redress our nation’s past and current wrongs. Their cries have led to massively increased diversity, equity and inclusion efforts across numerous parts of society. Organizations are finally talking about these important issues.

Dr. Ibram X. Kendi’s books on how to be an anti-racist have become New York Times best- sellers. People are finally, genuinely, asking, “What can I do to be part of the solution?”

Some of the more responsible school districts are incorporating a truer version of American history, and older students are finally being taught how our ingrained systems impact Black people.

More police departments now require their officers to wear body cameras to ensure people are treated more fairly.

It’s caused the federal and even some state governments to cancel convictions of primarily Black men and women for non-violent, marijuana-related crimes.

Of course, there are miles and miles to go, but change is happening.
