A Passover Lesson: The Power of Personal Liberation to Defeat Injustice
While we fight society’s injustices, we can in the meantime free ourselves of personal bondage
It sometimes seems endlessly tiring to try to change so many unjust systems. For many, it must feel overwhelming and even downright depressing to think about how long we’ve begged for profound societal changes only to keep coming up short.
Mention Critical Race Theory, and it sends so many people into a frenzied fit, even though most have no idea what it is. Really, anything with the word “race” in it seems to contort the minds of otherwise thoughtful people.
Talk about teaching accurate history and politicians race to pass laws to prevent it. How dare we acknowledge Thomas Jefferson’s Black descendants?
The mere mention of systemic racism triggers thousands in this country to prepare for some fictional culture war. Ask to simply discuss the concept of reparations and people immediately stomp their feet in anger.
The inoffensive phrase “Black Lives Matter” riles people up as if their very existence has been threatened.
It sometimes feels like there’s no hope of making the kinds of changes needed for society to heal.
